Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Applications for the Pelvic Health

Physical Therapist*

Orthopaedic expert, Dr. Spencer Cowen, explores the irrefutable connection between the lumbar spine and pelvic floor, which is sometimes poorly understood by many physical therapists.

By better understanding referral

patterns and contributions of the lumbar spine, pelvic floor practitioners can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their initial examination. Lab will provide a review of basic examination skills of the lumbar spine, while providing a model for integrating orthopedic manual therapy and streamlined clinical reasoning into the practice of a pelvic floor physical therapy.

2:30 pm

Hormonal Health

Seasoned pelvic floor expert, Dr. Sarahann Callaway, presents the complex interplay the female endocrine system has on the musculoskeletal and nervous systems we treat on a daily basis. The implications of hormone health are so important to consider for our patients/clients who experience menses and have or will transition through menopause.

3:30 pm

Emotional Health of the Postpartum Person

Bringing her 20+ years of experience working with people from conception through the fourth trimester, pre- and postpartum doula, Julie Six, reminds us to fully appreciate the emotional and mental load on the postpartum person. This course includes valuable insights on what individuals really face as they bring home an infant while trying to physically recover from childbirth. We will uncover strategies on balancing a successful postpartum recovery without furthering any shame or overwhelm that a new parent may be experiencing.
